31 Girls of December: Day 16

31 Girls of December, day 16!

I wanted to take a moment, within my 31 Girls of December posts, and recognize the horrific and unnecessary events that took place in Happy Valley, Oregon and Newton, Connecticut this month. May the victims of both tragedies be recognized for their bravery and the families of the victims find solace in knowing that the world is grieving with them and sending them strength. Violence is never the answer.

31 Girls of December: Day 1

In honor of the holidays and finals, I am challenging myself to draw a girl a day all month long. Each girl inspired from an article of clothing from a catalog (tis the catalog season).

Enjoy the girls of December! And check back daily, all month long, for more!

Breast Cancer Awareness

This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month (amongst other things). I wanted to pay homage to the women who have lost their lives and those who have persevered this terrible disease.

Click the links, get educated and check yourself.

Halloween in August

ParaNorman was outstanding and incredibly inspiring!

Now I am looking forward to Sony's Hotel Transylvania.

Study Abroad Summer Intensive; Iceland!

I just got back from Iceland! CCA does short intensive programs overseas lead by a teacher from my school. I was one of the lucky ones picked to go with John Zurier to Reykjavik and the Icelandic West. For several weeks we spent time in and out of galleries, museums and out and about on beaches, horses, lava fields and even Snæfellsjökull glacier!

The Blue Lagoon

Aerial view of Reykjavik

Look its me on the top of the Snæfellsjökull glacier!

The beautiful Lýsuhóll Icelandic horse farm where we stayed in Snaefellsness

Here are some postcards I sent

Here are some studies from my sketchbook (I studied color a lot throughout the trip)

And finally the Vikings! My caricatures of the class, for the class!

 Takk Fyrir!

I had to take a math class this semester. Brought back memories of math camp... no really, my parents sent me to math camp.

Wallpaper tilings:

For my final I studied Non-Euclidean (Spherical and Hyperbolic) geometry and created physical representations of Hyperbolic space through crochet. Which was not only cool within itself, but I also taught myself how to crochet and ended up creating the forms below!

From left to right: 2 circular Hyperbolic spaces, 2 slow growing Hyperbolic spaces and finally a linear Hyperbolic space.
